At last Huacachina has a true backpackers place to hang the hat. The brainchild of a young Vermonter and her Peruvian mate, Desert Nights is a classic hostel, in true International Hostelling style. On the shores of the lagoon, it has two roomy dorms with bunk beds galore. Thick blankets keep the chill away. Common baths are huge, clean and designated by gender. The whole lodge is decorated with relics of those by-gone days when Huacachina was a first-class resort. Common rooms are cozy places to read, share travel tales over a beer or write.
