Casona del Marqués de Torre Hermosa - Historical Building Ica - Peru

Home to a bank, there is no signage to set this building apart from others around it. Yet its mere presence stands out amid downtown Ica’s more modern architecture. Having survived urban development and earthquakes, the Casona del Marqués de Torre Hermosa is one of the only examples of viceregal architecture still standing. The carved-stone, Rococo façade is beautiful. The marquis was one of Ica’s wealthiest citizens during the colonial era, and also was owner of Hacienda Ocucaje. The mansion is also known as Casa Bolívar, as the Liberator, Simón Bolívar, had stayed here.
