Hitting the slopes, or the dunes in this case, is growing in popularity, mainly because it's for beginners as well as experienced snow boarders. While sandboarding, expect to fall multiple times. But don't let that scare you. The sand breaks the fall well unless it's a real doozy.
Many tours take you to the sand dunes in what else? A dune buggy. On the way there and back, the buggies race down steep dunes, leaving you praying that your seatbelt holds. Both activities are exhilarating and safe enough. They're a nice break from Peru's numerous hiking and trekking opportunities.
