Located between the towns of Ica and Nasca (it is closer to Ica), Hotel Hacienda Ocucaje is a popular tourist destination for Peruvians and foreigners alike. It has been a working winery and pisco manufacturer since the sixteenth century, when the Jesuits established it as a winery. When the Jesuits were expulsed form the New World in 1767, Ocucaje became private property. For a time, it belonged to Bernardo O'Higgins, one of the most important figures of South American independence.

It was the property of the Rubini family in 1970 when land reform legislation took effect, and the Rubinis lost the hacienda and land. By 1994, however, they had bought it all back, and turned the historic mansion into a hotel. it is still a pisco factory and winery — even if you don't stay here, you can take the tour and participate in wine tasting afterwards — even though grapes are no longer grown at the hacienda itself.

The hotel is charming and relaxed. It still feels more like a home than a hotel. They can arrange many tours, including fossil hunting, dune buggy trips, horseback riding and sandboarding.

If you are a "Wine Lover", enjoy great food and want to actually have a choice between being busy or peaceful during vacation, this is your place to be. My kids and I had a wonderful time, when I felt like resting away from all the city noises and busy life in US, also, the wine OH!!, this is it!! I was right in paradise, while my boys wanted to have fun, they fot many things to do, the place is away from the city, in other words, you will have a great time if you are looking for fun or peace, I highly recomend it!

best-kept secret in Ica on way to Nazca

We highly recommend this hacienda / hotel. Having been disappointed with some other similarly priced hotels in Ica, we were pleasantly surprised with this property. While rooms are simple but clean, the hotel grounds have beautiful centuries-old trees and indigenous plants (along with an impressive whale bone fossil collection) a nice pool is nestled in the middle of colonial-style buildings. Ask for the promotions with meals, most activities, and bodega tour included. Hotel nanny entertains kids while parents relax have candle-lit dinner sat in the wine cellar while kids roast marshmellows on the bonfire.
