For a town is that off most foreign backpackers’ trail, Moquegua has plenty of tourism offices with staff eager to let travelers know all there is to see and do in the area. Most only speak Spanish.

MONEY
Moquegua has a handful of banks that have ATMs, and that exchange US dollars (low rates). Banking hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Banco de la Nación: Has a Western Union agent. Ca. Lima and Ca. Tacna.
BCP: Ca. Moquegua and Ca. Tarapacá.
Interbank: Has a MoneyGram agent; also exchanges Euros. Ca. Moquegua and Ca. Tarapacá, diagnoally across from BCP.
Changing money on the street (especially on Avenida Balta in the market area) is not recommended for safety reasons and counterfeit notes.
KEEPING IN TOUCH
Internet and Phones: Internet cafés are located along Calle Ayacucho, west of the Plaza de Armas, and down Calle Piura. Some also have national and international phone service. To make a cell phone call, hit up the people dressed in florescent green vests that hang out around the Plaza de Armas.
Serpost Post Office: Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-noon, 2:30-6:30 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. It is located in the historic Casona de las 10 Ventanas. Ayacucho 570, Plaza de Armas.
MEDICAL
There are two public medical facilities in town:
Hospital Mariscal Nieto: Av. BolÃvar. Tel: 462-410 462-196).
Centro de Salud San Francisco: Ca. Daniel Becerra Ocampo. Tel: 461-918.
Several pharmacies are located near the Plaza de Armas, on Calle Moquegua.
