Paracas and Playa Chaco teem with tour operators offering trips out to Islas Ballestas and to the national reserve. Those affiliated with hotels give discounts to their guests. Most agencies have guides that speak English and Spanish, as well as French, Japanese and other languages. Some agencies now are offering dune buggying, sand boarding and other excursions in the Huacachina area.

Over 40 boats give tours to Islas Ballestas; be sure life jackets and other safety measures are provided. Most leave at 8 a.m., when the sea is calmer; the last is at 11 a.m. The set price for the two-hour tour is $13, plus $2 park entry and $0.25 port tax. Late morning tours cost more. The 8 a.m. excursions return in time to hook up with tours to Reserva Nacional de Paracas (11 a.m. Cost: $9, plus $2 park entry fee). There are one or two extra tours to the park in the high season, depending on demand. These tours include transportation and bilingual guide.
