Arequipa is a beautiful place to rest after travelling from Lima, Pisco, Ica, Nazca. Looking for standard 2-to-3-hour tours in Arequipa itself, I only found the excellent Reality Tour, created by Miguel Fernandez, a pasionate fine educated Peruvian with a real soul for his people. He takes you to places you will never be able to visit in whole Perú, that is why it is so unique: I visited the local market, the place where the white vulcanic stones are elaborated, further on towards shanty towns and a stop at the wawawasi and a local restaurant in these shanty towns. A tour so fine combined with profound knowledge of the guide Miguel himself, economics, politics, social and moral issues are explained to you. Really worthwile this tour and unique in its kind.

Other helpful information: Take time of for Colca Canyon tour or trekking of 3 days ( bus 4 hours from aRequipa) trekking is a good preparation for the Inca Trail in Cusco. The trekking is beautiful, and its nature very very surprising. Sleeping in basic cabins is endurable. Advantage: no big backpacks necesary, only a small one.

Must see/do at this place: Arequipa: good for resting after long days of travelling, enjoy the many restaurants, the colonial city and the sun.

You should avoid here: Eat ceviche at night.
