Most people arriving in Tacna just cross the street from one bus terminal to the other, rushing to get over the border and on to another hot tourist destination. Tacna, though, is worth a day or two stay, to explore the many museums, stroll down the Paseo Bolognesi and take a jaunt to wineries in the country. The public cemetery is a curious mix of tombs reflecting the ethnic diversity of the city. Bird watchers will find many prime sites here, like the virtually deserted beaches near Tacna and the Humedales de Ite. To top the adventure off, take the train to Chile.
