A wander around the Plaza de Armas is one of the highlights of a visit to Tacna. Opposite the civic center, the Catedral de Tacna is a simple but stunning cathedral, designed by Gustave Eiffel and completed in 1854. The structure is built form quarry stone and the inside is less ornate than other churches. The beautiful Ornamental Fountain, completed during the 19th century, can be found in the middle of the civic center. Also, the Arch of the Heroes can be found in this plaza, commemorating the figureheads of the War of the Pacific: Gua and Bolognesi, after which streets are also named.
