Traveler Advice
Tacna is generally a safe city—but a city nonetheless. Take care in the market areas and the bus terminals. It is best to take a taxi to your destination late at night and before dawn; use only authorized services. Be aware changing money on the street (official changers wear a colored vest and ID) or using ATMs. At the bus terminals, buy your tickets only from agencies and ticket offices. Do not consume food, drink or other products offered to you or from strolling vendors. And—as testimony to the growing role of Tacna in the drug trade—do not carry packages for other people.
