Travel Tips Types:
Climate, peak seasons, Holidays and festivals

By Lorraine Caputo

The austral summer months (December-March) are warm day and night, with temperatures 25-28°C (77-83°F). The rest of the year, days dawn cloudy, usually clearing by mid-day. Evenings and nights are chill, necessitating a sweater or jacket. In winter (June-August), temperatures reach 6-13°C (43-55°F).

Many of the special days celebrated in Tacna have to do with the War and subsequent liberation from Chile:

May 26—Homenaje a los Defensores del Campo de la Alianza—Parades and various civic acts paying homage to those who defended the region from the Chilean invasion.

August 24-30—Exposur—A commercial fair exhibiting the agricultural and artisan production of the Tacna region.

August 28—Reincorporación de Tacna al Perú—The biggest celebration in Tacna, parking its reincorporation into the country of Peru.

November 1-2—Día de los Todos Santos—Observances of departed family members, of particular interest in Tacna because of the diverse Peruvian and international population of the city. Traditions include cleaning of the tombs, curanderos doing rituals, the dead being feted with food and drink, and serenades.
