Artisans in Tacna specialize in woodcarving, weaving and ceramics. The entire length of Pallardelli, near the Mercado Central, is known as the mercado artesanĂa. Here are many small shops selling sweaters, ponchos, bags and souvenirs at good prices. Another concentration of shops is on the 600 and700 blocks of Avenida Bolognesi. Most are open daily 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Behind the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INC) are workshop-galleries of regional Tacna artists and craftspersons (daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Ayacucho, between San MartĂn and BolĂvar).
