Transportation
Crossing the Río de la Plata from Buenos Aires to Colonia is easy and takes less than an hour. Both Buquebus (www.buquebus.com) and Ferryturismo (www.ferryturismo.com.uy) run multiple daily departures. (One-way, AR$98, return, AR $199.) Cacciola Viajes y Turismo also runs a cheaper alternative between El Tigre and Carmelo, but it requires an additional bus journey on the Buenos Aires end out to El Tigre.
