As far as institutions can go in Cabo Polonio, Joselo’s is the one. This bar’s blind owner lives and sleeps here (during the day, of course), and is famous for having had a stray pet penguin called Pancho, who used to waddle around drinkers’ feet. Sadly, the penguin has now passed, but this bar remains extremely popular, and gets very busy in summer. Try the Licor de ButÃa, made from extracts of palm tree. Beautifully obscured by plants, with bottles decorating the floor. Recommended.

From the plaza, head north along the main street; Joselo’s is soon on the right.
