El Museo Romántico, also called La Casa de Antonio Montero, is another sumptuous former home of a prominent businessman now turned into a public museum. In 1830, the home underwent a complete restoration adding the ornate decorations that now adorn the walls, converting it into one of the most luxurious residences in all of Montevideo. Opened to the public in 1962, this property is a prime example of Neoclassical style, and as part of the National Historical Museum, provides insight into the lives and customs of the affluent on the RÃo de La Plata in 19th-century history.
