The best tourism office is by Mercado del Puerto, at the corner of Francisco Maciel and Rambla. There’s another one across the Rambla, facing Calle Yacate, with more organized bus services.
Money:
Fed Ex is on Calle Juncal in Plaza Independencia, between Sarandà and Buenos Aires. It is open Monday- Friday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2.-5 p.m. Next door, find Moneygram, which is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. There’s a HSBC ATM along Calle Ituzaingo in Plaza Matriz and a Banco Santader open Monday- Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on 25 de Mayo and Treinta y Tres. Stock up on money before the weekend.
Medical:
Hospital Maciel is on 25 de Mayo between Francisco Maciel and Guarani. For non-emergencies, plan to get there early and avoid the crowd. There’s one pharmacy at Sarandà 510 and a 24-hour one right outside Plaza Independencia on Avenida 18 de Julio, just before Calle Andes.
Keeping in Touch:
You can find pay phones along Pérez Castellano by Sarandà and along Sarandà in Plaza Matriz. Make photocopies at the Paper Store at Sarandà 514 and send mail near Sarandà 460.
Laundry:
One of the only laundry facilities in Ciudad Vieja is at Pérez Castellano 1432 (Monday- Friday 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tel: 2-915-2859).
Camera:
You’ll find film developing available at the corner of 25 de Mayo and Misiones, Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. For Camera repair, you’ll have to head outside Ciudad Vieja; the closest nearby is Fotocamara in El Centro.
Food Services:
There’s a grocery store at Bartolomé Mitre 1390, but the one at Pérez Castellano 1478 is open seven days a week 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
