Palacio Municipal, Replica Statue Of David And Museo De Historia Del Arte - Museum Montevideo - Uruguay

You weren’t expecting to see a statue of Michelangelo’s David when you came to Uruguay, but this is what can be viewed at the front of the Palacio Municipal (City Hall). A gift from Italy, it is only your first glimpse of Europe before heading into the even bigger surprise of the Museo de Historia del Arte. Montevideo’s answer to the British Museum houses a large collection of ancient and colonial artifacts, including busts from Greek antiquity, Roman marble sculptures and the ubiquitous Egyptian mummy. More unusual pieces include Islamic and pre-Colonial Uruguayan artwork. A must-see and great for kids.
