On Saturday or Sunday between one o'clock and three in the afternoon, Mercado Del Puerto fills up with families and friends, backpackers and even celebrity futboleras looking to share a common pastime: the parrillada. Located just across from the Buquebus port, this open-aired restaurant gallery has no lack of visitors on the weekend--locals and tourists alike come here to savor succulent steaks and drink red wine out of oversized glasses. In fact, Mercado del Puerto is one of Montevideo's most famous sights. Even if you're vegetarian or on a tight budget, it's worth coming just for the atmosphere. In the pedestrian walkway separating rows of restaurants, street performers, art vendors and all sorts of salesmen set up shop to entertain the teems of diners passing a long leisurely afternoon under the sun. Bottoms up.
