The owners of Palermo ArtHostel seem to be banking on the fame of the hot Buenos Aires design neighborhood, Palermo, to reel tourists into their new hostel. Palermo, Montevideo, is not a bad place to stay but it's not quite the same as its counterpart on the other side of the river. Hostels in Ciudad Vieja are most definitely closer to the nightlife. Palermo has a few of its own appealing restaurants and bars, but the remains neighborhood fairly quiet. That said, the hostel here, which opened in April 2007, is unique and affords a very different experience from Montevideo's other backpacker hangouts: Palermo ArtHostel is part cultural project and showcases the work of both locals and travelers. Nightlife kicks off in the hostel bar, where live music is often held. Linens and towels are included, enabling you to send everything off to the laundry while you're here. Quarters here include lockers, 24-hour hot water, wi-fi and a full kitchen. Breakfast is included and served from nine to 12.
