Café Central has carved its niche among the many cafés of Montevideo—its three locations on 18 de Julio are a testament to its popularity and success. Travelers will be pleased to find that the menu smacks of home—European pastries, cakes and coffees are served up alongside traditional pizzetas and cortados. The décor is minimalist, but doesn’t seem to make this coffeehouse any less cozy. Try the tarta de manzana (apple tart)—it comes with whipped cream! The cappuccinos are also to die for. Vegetarians will love the quiche and salad set menu, which is offered many days of the week and comes with your choice of coffee, mineral water and a bread basket.
