Walk Around Pocitos’ Art Deco And Art Nouveau Architecture - City Walk Montevideo - Uruguay

You may not believe it with all the high-rises, but hidden around the streets of Pocitos lie some fascinating art deco and art nouveau structures, with occasional Gothic and even Tudor influences too. Anywhere you choose to wander you’ll find something of interest, but for a great walk, try this:

From Plaza Tomás Gomensore, head northward along J.B. Blanco until Avenida Brasil, admiring the attractive houses along the way. At the corner of Avenida Brasil and Blanco, you’ll find Edificio El Mástil, one of the city’s major art deco buildings, built in 1935 with reinforced concrete. Turn left up Avenida Brasil and take a look at La Casa de Claudio William, the striking house of a former president. Keep going until you reach Santiago Vazquez, where a right turn will take you to some of the prettiest buildings in the area. Head back along Bulevar España if you’ve not yet finished gazing.

Take your camera; you’ll come away very snap happy.
