Museo Taller Casa Pueblo

Location:
Punta del Este, Uruguay

Museum

By Amanda Massello

The Museo Taller Casa Pueblo showcases the works of Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, who has spent the last fifty years as a working artist. The adjoining Club Hotel Casa Pueblo, fifteen minutes outside of PDE in Punta Ballena, is a thoroughly unique and modern hotel. While notably interesting for its architectural aesthetic, Casa Pueblo is, in fact, a living sculpture that houses 70 apartments. If a comparison were to be drawn, Vilaró could be described as a Uruguayan Gaudí for his use of irregular angles in creating unconventional sculptures. Art aficionados who can’t throw money down for a room here should at the very least pay the museum a visit to see Vilaró’s paintings and sculptures.
