1949 Hostel, built—unsurprisingly—in 1949, originally served as the premises of Hotel Anglet. Founded by a Yugoslavian immigrant who ran it as a residence, the building is laden with history. Standing in stark contrast to the hotel’s former use, rooms here now host backpackers looking to party hard on the beach in one of South America’s most famous hotspots. Staying here by no means equals roughing it: The hostel has rooms with beach views and private bathrooms. Services offered include: laundry, internet, transportation transfers, room service, 24-hour reception and a bar. Guests also have access to a full kitchen, individual lockers and a TV room. Breakfast is built-in to the price. Bikes and even mopeds can be rented from the hostel staff. Stylish. Just don’t forget your sunglasses.
