Casa Pueblo, located on the shores of Punta Ballena in Punta del Este, is a destination unto itself. A project of the Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaró, Casa Pueblo is unparalleled in Uruguay, and even, some might say, in all of South America. Intended to be a “living sculpture,” the hotel looks like a large grouping of white caves, reminiscent of homes in the Greek Cyclades, but with a touch of the postmodern. There are no right angles here. The undulating edges of the hotel mimic the soft waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Casa Pueblo is comprised of 70 unique apartments, each with its own terrace overlooking the sea. These romantic bungalows are wholly modern: they come with satellite TV and a full kitchen. Quality services also available to guests include: sauna, spa, gym, two pools, yoga classes, and even ayurveda massages. Breakfast is included as is airport transfer. Horseback riding and water sports can be arranged with the hotel.
