Lo de Tere is somewhat of an institution in Punta del Este, catering to over 180 guests nightly in its terrace, garden room and classic dining room. Due to Lo de Tere’s popularity, these are almost always full and the waiting list is often long. Latin American cuisine is served in a casual atmosphere with views of the harbor. Fresh seafood, rack of lamb, risottos and plates named after celebrities—such as the “Brad Pitt” chicken breast and the “Robert Redford” sweet chicken curry—are standard fare here. An extensive wine list and bodega filled with a wide variety of both Uruguayan and international fine wines as well as champagnes, sangria and clericot (a Uruguayan white sangria punch) are offered. Top it all off with a lemon crème brulee, classic flan, or Italian “Igloo” meringue, amongst others. Lo de Tere presents not only gourmet food, but also professional, pre-university training through its culinary institute, in operation since 1998. Reservations can be made online or by phone.
