The Department of Colonia has an established wine route, which basically covers the four main bodegas in the region. AGT, the local tour operator, offers a full day tour of all four for $100 per person. However, there is a much more affordable option. Founded in 1892, Bodega Bernardi is located on Ruta 1, only a few kilometers from town. This fourth-generation, family-owned establishment offers a guided tour of its wine-making facilities and extensive vineyards, plus a tasting of its delicious Tannat and four varieties of grappas, all absolutely free of charge.
