When the cool of Merida's climate gets to the bone, a great place to escape for a warm-up is Aguas Termales Santa Marta located near Tabay. Only about 40 minutes away by local bus, the springs are easy to get to. They are popular with locals on weekends and holidays. It is tranquil during the week. There are two sets of pools. The lower pools are shallower and warmer, ranging from 37'C in the piscina and 30'C in pools; the sauna is 50'C. The upper pools (about 10 minutes further on by public jeep) are larger but cooler.
