If you saw me, you might not believe I am the mom of a 23 year old. After four years living in Thailand to 'kick-start' a second career as a freelance writer and magazine editor, I am now finally doing my long-dreamed of tour of Europe - but with assignments along the way and an eye to find my next home and language. Writing specialties include travel, lifestyle, real estate, architecture, yachting and inspirational (non-religious).

Travel philosophy
Travel can enrich life and expand the spirit when the mind is open.
Craziest place
A tiny Muslim village in the hills outside Jogjakarta where I spent a week studying dance with a master at his parents' little house. Second: pretty cliche, but Pushkar, Rajasthan gets honorable mention for blending bell-toting camels, mustache-sporting warriors (both spit a lot!), good music, large quantities of dust and stoners of every nationality with nothing less than elan.
Bizarre experience
Living in the sexpat capitol of the world - Bangkok - and being told by a young western man that I should take my son to see sex shows and visit prostitutes so that he can get the 'whole' picture before deciding if he wants a western-style relationship or not.
Advice
Respect the culture and people you are visiting - their customes, taboos and sensibilities. Remember that when we travel, we are guests as well as ambassadors representing our home country. Be gracious.
Dream destination
No single destination, but characteristics include sunny skies, warm weather, wild nature, diverse community and great food!
Traveled before
The Sonoran desert of Northern Mexico, across Canada from west to east, about 40 of the 50 US states, India, Bali, East and Central Java, Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Hong Kong, Spain, Bay of Biscay by yacht, France, Rome, Andalucia, Lisboa, Mallorca, Jordan and the Dead Sea.
Going next
Istanbul and maybe Damascus, Budapest, Amsterdam, Berlin . .
