I'm a former medical lab technologist from Canada, now exploring other options in my semi-retirement. Currently I live in a converted Greyhound bus in the Oaxaca Trailer Park with my husband and two cats, having travelled in said bus through 30 Mexican states, Guatemala and Belize. It's been a wonderful experience and I look forward to sharing some of my/our accumulated knowledge with V!VA readers.

  • Travel philosophy

To quote Mark Twain, "Travel is fatal...to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness."

  • Bizarre experience

Saying "tatonka" ('buffalo' in Native American, think "Dances with Wolves") to a washroom attendant in an English pub in Bangkok, when I couldn't remember "kapkoonka" ('thank you' in Thai).

  • Advice

Keep an open mind and a level head. Enjoy the journey as much as the destination. You can buy toilet paper anywhere.
