I can sit back and quietly observe as much as I can dive in and start the party. This is how I research for my writing. I sometimes silently watch from a back seat, meticulously taking notes like an undercover spy and other times I get involved and experience first hand. Travel writing is my labour of love and I am constantly on a mission to turn it into my career. The aim to turn it into a money making venture ironically leaves me penniless and exhausted but I plough on because the things I have learnt so far on the road have been invaluable and I am positive that I will reap the rewards of my endeavours soon enough. I seem to go away and come back a lot these days, heading off to new countries either for my own travel or for work purposes, coming back to London to pull some cash together and then fleeing off to another far flung destination. I love change and constantly being on the move and this is reflected in how I conduct my life, brief stints in remote countries, moments home to come down to earth and then off again on the next project. A travel writer's life for me.
