I work as an Editor/Writer at Viva Travel Guides in Quito, Ecuador. I first came to Latin America five years ago to escape rainy England and I haven't been able to stay away since. This is my fourth year living in the continent; I've taught English on the Galapagos Islands, worked as a guide book writer in Bolivia, and managed non-profits in both Bolivia and Ecuador. Quito is my home now and I love living here - I love the sunny mornings, the mountains, the food and of course the friendliness of the people.

  • Travel philosophy

Seeing just a few places in depth is much better than rushing to fit in as many sights as possible.

  • Craziest place

Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia - an enormous salt desert, it looks how I imagine the surface of the moon does.

  • Bizarre experience

Spending 8 hours on a freezing cold train heading to the aforementioned Salar de Uyuni, with an armadillo in a plastic bag as a traveling companion (the old man opposite me had bought it along).

  • Advice

    Have no expectations!
