I'm originally from Northern Ireland but have lived in Santiago de Chile for over two years. I work in marketing communications and as a writer and editor. I got the travel bug a few years ago and haven't looked back since.

The world is a wonderful place.
Craziest place
India, Tokyo and Cambodia. Saturday night in Belfast city centre can be pretty scary too.
Bizarre experience
Getting stranded along a dirt track road in the middle of Cambodia and then being rescued by a teenage boy on a moped.

Teaching my Indian driver to sing traditional Northern Irish songs and learning Hindi tunes.
Advice
Don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. Try the local cuisine!

Smile! Learn to say hello and thank-you in the local language - you'll get a much better reception. Respect the environment and culture of your host country. Always carry water and some imodium tablets!
